As you can probably tell from the physical map, New Zealand is made of up two main islands; the North and South Islands. New Zealand is a quirky country in respect to it's location. Many are confused to whether or not New Zealand is part of the Australia continent. New Zealand is not a part of the Australia continent. It is in the Oceania region along with many other smaller islands such as Papua New Guinea, Marshall islands etc. New Zealand is located in the South Pacific Ocean and to the southeast of Australia.
New Zealand is quite small compared to the United States, measured at 267,710 squared kilometers. That's roughly only 3% of the United States!
New Zealand's terrain are mainly made of mountain ranges (the large brown patches on the map) and some coastal plains (the green parts of the island).
